Research Trends in Art Therapy for Abused Children in Korea

Abstract
This study drew the following conclusions with a total of 53 research materials on abused children, 29 master's & doctorate thesis and 24 papers published in Korea from 1996 to December 2020. First, research on art therapy for abused children started with one paper in 1996 and published one or two papers until 2004. The number of thesis published from 2005 to December 2020 was 25 master's thesis, one doctoral thesis, and 19 papers, indicating that research is steadily increasing. Second, elementary school students occupied the highest proportion among the abused children¡¯s age, the number of group members was found to be the largest with one person. Third, neglect accounted for the highest proportion of child abuse types, and K-CBCL, self-efficiency scale, picture inspection HTP and KFD were used the most as measurement tools. As for the main art media, the proportion of using paper and background media was the highest. Fourth, the proportion of single case studies was the highest. The number of trials per week was the highest in studies that applied one sessions per week, followed by twice a week, once or twice a week, and three times a week. The rate of study applying 60-89 minutes per session was high, followed by 40-59 minutes and 90-120 minutes. This study presented basic data for the operation and development of art therapy programs by analyzing trends, by research subject, research content, and research method on the effects of art therapy programs for abused children in Korea.
